Playground Turf meets and exceeds the ASTM Standards for Head Injury Criteria (ASTM F1292) and ADA Wheelchair Accessibility (ASTM F1951) with 8” to 12” of thickness.

Therefore, we recommend, especially under fall zones, to have an even distribution of Playground Turf with a minimum 12” depth.

Ideally the whole playground should have 12” thickness however if there is a shortage, distribute the material evenly with 12” thickness under the fall zones and evenly taper the material to no less than 8” thickness towards the borders.

This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.

  • Blow In installation service.
  • Skid Steer Loader.
  • Wheelbarrows, shovels, and rakes.

The method of application is not as important as finishing the job to get even distribution. It is important to “rake out” any uneven portions of the material.

Maintenance is also critical. Heavy use zones, such as under the swings and slides, often require re-distribution of the material as it gets kicked out of optimal position. Simply rake the material back into the lower levels to achieve even distribution again.
